ABOUT STACEY

Stacey has been assisting people in conflict since 2010. He is the founder of Black Balloon Consulting, a private practice focusing on family law mediation, workplace mediation, parent and child services, recovery and addiction consulting, and other law adjacent services. Stacey specializes in empowering families and individuals facing emotionally challenging situations, crises of mental health, and in supporting workers and employers across the social services sector. He brings unparalleled authenticity to every human interaction.

He became a dispute resolution professional upon realizing its significant cost benefits to separating couples compared with navigating the court system, and the psychological advantages it provides to people stressed out by their personal legal circumstances. He began offering services by distance in 2020, and expanded in 2025.

Stacey is a certified Mediator on the rosters of ADR BC, MediateBC, and FMC. He is also a certified Crisis Counsellor, experienced Employment Counsellor, and has been a longtime manager in the complex not-for-profit industry where he oversaw a sober day program and a men’s recovery house for over eight years in the Greater Victoria area. Stacey serves on the board of the Harbourcats Foundation, a charity promoting diversity and access to sport for youth across Vancouver Island.

He studied Social Work at the University of Saskatchewan where he sought additional courses on family dynamics, social cognition, and the effects of incarceration on mental health and career development. He has completed workshops dedicated to child protection, compassionate interviewing, burnout prevention, managing aggressive people, and suicide prevention.

His own lived experience helps him empathize with others.

COLLABORATIVE FAMILY LAW

A confidential and collaborative process to resolve family disputes, Mediation helps divorcing or separating couples resolve issues such as property division, support payments, and parenting arrangements out of court.

A voluntary and confidential process where a neutral professional helps resolve disputes or communication breakdowns without the need for formal investigations or legal proceedings.

Formal documents that outline how separated or divorced parents will raise their children, and how they will make important decisions with the best interests of their children in mind. This includes parenting schedules, decision making processes, and strategies to reduce conflict.
